
This course introduces learners to the Virgin of Peñafrancia, the revered patroness of the Bicol Region, whose feast is recognized as one of the largest and most vibrant Marian celebrations in the Philippines. It explores the historical origin, religious significance, and cultural impact of the devotion to Ina, as she is lovingly called by the Bicolanos. The lesson highlights the values of faith, unity, sacrifice, and resilience manifested during the annual festivities, particularly the Traslacion and the Fluvial Procession.
Through this course, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the interconnection between faith and culture, appreciating how devotion to the Virgin of Peñafrancia shapes the spiritual identity and communal life of Bicolanos. Students will also be encouraged to reflect on the relevance of religious traditions in strengthening moral character, social harmony, and cultural pride.
